I have setup satellite TV receiver suite in my apartment successfully. 3 days was spent on this interesting engineering. Over 100 new channels from 2 satellites were added into channel list including CNN, BBC and my favoritest program - National Geographic. The only pity is lack of my another favoritest channel - Discovery Channel. It makes my coming vacation to be more interesting. The most exciting point is the low total equipments cost: CNY 880.00. Labour cost is CNY 250.00. Saveing labour cost by you own skill or enough patience. Please look into the installation guidance in following paragraphs.

Why satellite ?
Actually I can watch over 70 channels with conventional cable TV, but most are boring and not alive. The satellite TV channels such as CNN, NG and HBO are more attactive than CCTV and STV.
Conventional TV is transmitted by analog signals instead of digital signals, digital signal provides better vedio and audio such as stereo or 5.1 surround. I have perfect AV system at home including YAMAHA AV receiver and Jamo 5.1 speakers, satellite TV could make them contribute moch more.
What risks?
The first risk is legal issue. In China satellite receiving equipments production , sales and installation are both tight controlled by government. The illegal devices (installed personally without authorization) could be confiscated by the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television once they find.
Friendly hint: Hidding your satellite TV digibox in case official comes into your home to take down and cofidcate equipments. A dish price is only CNY 90, but digiboxs’ is above CNY 500.
The second risk is smart card. Smart card enables retreving security key from digital single and decoding encrypted programs. So smart card is very important, otherwise only few boring channels you can watch.
It is humiliating that I am using piratical smart cards. Once satellite TV carrier updates signal encryption system or security key, I might can’t continue to receive satellite TV programs. I think it doesn’t matter because pirate solution always can be worked out by enthusiast.
How to DIY?
1 Learn basic satellite TV knowledge. At least you should understand some nouns like polarization, frequency and so on. Reference site http://www.tvrosh.com/bbsxp/bbsxp/Default.asp (in Chinese). At same time you should select 1 or 2 target satellite transmitting your fond channels.
2 Measure required orientation and angles (depending on the target satellite(s) you expect) to ensure that there is a existed appropriate position (s) at somewhere around your apartment or house. Ignore the below content if you can’t ascertain the appropriate position.
Hint: A good compass is necessary.

3 Purchase required equipments. I bought them from the web store. http://www.tvrosh.com/shop/book.asp?id=202 (in Chinese). It provides best price I found on internet.
4 Assemble dish accessories. (I have two dishes) Assemblage introduction should be in wrapping box. It quite simple but easy to understand.
5 Fix and secure the dish on the position ascertained in step 2. (Need percussive drill and appropriate toolkit). If you are not familiar of the kind of engineering, ask for friends or professional help.
6 Connect satellite digibox to your TV set. I connected it to my YAMAHA AV Receiver because I have multiple AV inputs including digital TV receiver and DVD. Open tuning function by digibox remote controller. If the single strength is higher than 60 percent, the connection is good.
7 This manipulation is hard to finish - seeking target satellite. Sometimes it isn’t absolutely straightforward! You should have very good patience. To speed up this step, you should calculate angles and adjust dish seriously and carefully.
Open satellite seeking out function in digibox, this should give you a screen to monitor singles parameters and quality. To tweak the dish carefully, pay particular attention to get the signal quality bar as high as it will go. This will maximize the dish alignment for the 2D beam. When the 2D beam gets more than 5.8dB, then congrats you should be able to watch satellite TV programs.
Hint A: Corresponding smart card should be put in digibox slot.
Hint B: This step is interesting but a beginner would spend much time(several hours or days) on the action. In addition, sometimes 2 people is required at the same time while one people can’t watch the singal strength on screen when tweaking the dish. To ask professional help with few cost whether you won’t waste time or have wasted much time. Actually 2 professionals came my apartment to help an coach me how to finish this key step. They were introduced by my friend and the labour cost is CNY 250. Now I can perform it by myself.
8 Of coz final step is sitting in soft sofa to watch the great programs. Haha
Till now I am watching programs by three kinds of TV : cable TV, digital TV (Microsoft TV STB) and satellite TV. They work together very well. Is there anohter kind of TV ?

Can you receive all those channels on KU band of those two satellites?
Are there a lot of people in Shanghai or other places receiving TV from their satellite receivers like yours?

Yes here are lots of dishs hanging outside of apartment building at Shanghai.
