I was flying to Beijing by MU5107 of China Eastern Airlines in this noon. Within schedule, the flight should take off at 11:00 AM. Finally we left Shanghai Hong Qiao airport at 11:29 AM. There was no empty seat any more in flight, because carrier merged flight(MU5105) to this one(MU5107).
My seat was at last row of plane, beside the gangway. The passengers around me were mostly transferred from the canceled flight MU5105. Apparently they had complaint and appeared flushed and impatient. They should have left Shanghai at 10:00AM, but till that time they have waited for taking off over 90 minutes.
A passenger challenged to take off ASAP after long time waiting. The aircrew explained to him that the extensional a half hour delay was caused by the lack of food for the temporary additional 60 passengers, ground service was transporting the food into cabin and she would not answer for this situation. The impatient passenger didn’t accepted this explanation completely. He said that aircrew should have ever done the work before boarding, because he had been notified of the flight mergence for 1 hour. The passenger cried out his complaint with impolite words such as ‘please shut up your bullshit’. Quarrel started.
It seems that their words both were reasonable in respective standard. I support the passenger, even though he wasn’t polite enough. Aircrew always represents her employer, the carrier - China Eastern Airlines, herein she shouldn’t give the passenger this kind of answer.
As a frequent flyer, I have met this kind of scenario time by time. Aircrew always gave me common answers like air traffic controlling, mechanical failure etc. But the answer are all pretexts, actually most delay were caused by air carrier internal communication problem or deficient preparation. Unfortunately, so far in China no any related issued law is to protect air consumers’ right. Flyer has only the several airlines to select. They are all state owned, and their service are not as good as they should do. What a pity!
