This morning, police caught me driving more than 110KM/h at Jia Xing toll station on A8 freeway ( Shanghai Hangzhou ). The corresponding punishment are 200RMB amercement plus deducting 3 points and possible of rising insurance premium.
How did they catch me?
I was driving to Hangzhou from Shanghai this morning. As far as approaching Jia Xing county, my speed was over 135KM/h. Suddenly I saw a camera hanging on a pole on right side of isolated zone, god POLICE ! I put on the brake in instinct, but it too late. Continue driving 5KM, I reached Jia Xing toll station. After taking toll card, a police taking a clipboard beckoned to me to park on the side of main lane. At the moment I knew, they had caught my overspeed for sure.
Punishing processes
The police nodded to me and said to me formally ‘Hello, please show me your driving license and car authorization’. From wallet, I took out my driving license and car authorization to him. He took them away and record my data, then told me to take punish at the table in front of another tunnel. Another police fulfilled penalty form and let me to pay amercement 200RMB to a open window of a police wagon. A female sitting in car took money and gave me receipt and then I took back my driving license and car authorization. That’s all.
What about the 3 points
In China, each driver has 12 points for deducting by breaking traffic rules in one driving license Checking-Over year. If driver runs out of the 12 points, he has to have an 3-days additional enforced traffic safety course and examination, otherwise he can’t pass through driving license checking over. I was a disciplined good drivers before the event. Now I had a blot on driving record and insurance agent might rise premium of my car in next insurance year. High cost!
Why today?
Traditionally, spring festival is very important for Chinese as well as X’mas for western world. Government will get security checking, crime prevention to be controlled tightly before spring festival. As I said spring festival are big days, in either government or enterprise yearly bonus would be issued before Spring Festival usually for having happy holidays. For police, they have amercement quota for each people and unit every year. A portion of amercement will be their yearly bonus. So… it happened today.
